Built in 1990, the Mackenzie Crossroads Heritage Museum is a distinctive northern log building complete with comprehensive tourism information (including events and self-guided tours) on local, provincial and national destinations. Located on the east side of Highway
and at the south end of High
Level, The Mackenzie Crossroads Museum and Visitor's Centre features a
regional history museum, visitor information,
souvenir sales, outdoor picnic area and overnight parking. The Northern Trading Post hosts a collection of over 1800 food and medicine containers, some dating back to the late 1800’s, along with an extensive photo collection. Donated by local residents, these plus other artifacts in use during the late 1800s and early 1900s, are showcased in a typical trading post/general store setting with living quarters attached. Supplementary displays also feature farming and trapping in the region. A regional historical photo display is a valued part of the collection. the region not only from the south Peace region but also from British
C Travelling displays and art exhibits from the Prairie Art Gallery; Science in a Crate programs made available through the Science Alberta Foundation and exhibits of all sizes from the Provincial Museum of Alberta are planned for the future. Local displays and exhibits are also housed throughout the year, the summer "feature exhibit" being the Annual Art Show. Local artists of all ages, mediums and levels of talent, are encouraged to exhibit their work from June to August. The gift shop sells the works of local artisans and photographers. The Mackenzie Crossroads Museum hosts a variety of popular events each year, including Heritage Day, Seniors Day, and Old-Fashioned Christmas Open House as well as school and group tours, cultural demonstrations and workshops.
